As of later years, tourists have been burnt by their choice of holiday. With rising temperatures and extreme heat in popular destinations, climate-conscious tourists are now seeking cooler, more comfortable getaways—and as Independent and Condé Nast Traveler coined it, Coolcation is the new buzz word.
Coolcation is the new buzz word.
This is good news for us at SeilNorge, tourists are flooding to Norway for their Coolcation. This puts Norway to the test—as well as the climate. Thus, a pledge to our customers is to travel here by train if they can, even if only for parts of the stretch.
Once With Us, You’re Cool
Powered by wind, making no impact to the land on which we tread, a holiday with SailNorway is just about as green as it gets. Enlightened travelers also appreciate the active aspect of sailing and the sensory experience of sea-faring the fjords. The majestic feeling of turning the wheel to round a cape. Crisp salty air blending with the warming sun as majestic mountains shoot up to port and starboard. Summer flowers and glaciers appearing simultaneously both in your nostrils and before your eyes. And in your ears—the clucking of waves to the hull blends with the calling of an eagle above and the blow from a whale a beam. Once with us, you’re nature itself—you’re cool.

One Trip for All Wishes
But what if your partner or kids rather would be relaxing at a tropical beach? Tell them this: at the foot of the Norwegian Alps, you’ll often find white-sand beaches and turquoise water—just like in the tropics, minus the annoying crowds and the excruciating heat.
So, while you hike a majestic peak, your partner may sway in a hammock on the yacht, laying at anchor by a paradise beach. True, a Coolcation isn’t always that cold, we have plenty of warm summer days, always with a refreshing fjord to cool you down.
Whether you’re chasing peaks or peace, there’s something for every kind of explorer up here. Ready to lace up your boots and head for the heights? Here are the most beautiful hikes in Lofoten & Helgeland.
The Land of Fjords
A fjord is a deep-sea inlet, framed by cliffs and mountains. Nowhere on the planet will you find as many fjords as here in Norway—over a thousand, now how cool is that?! Other than the warming summer sun, the local climate has two main forces during summer. The Gulf Stream traveling here from the Caribbean to cool down, thus gently warming our coast. The other force is cold mountain air sliding down the hillsides, sometimes bringing quick rain showers. The lovechild of these two forces are hillsides and fjords bursting with nature and wildlife. You may sport shorts and a t-shirt the same day you’ll wear a beanie and a wind breaker—and not necessarily in that order. And of course, up here in the fjords, binoculars and cameras are part of any cool outfit.

The Midnight Sun
Norway is a lifehack during summer. We’re sure you can entertain the thought of magical summer days with a sun that never sets, which at these latitudes—it doesn’t. Time stretches and so do your opportunities for adventure. Just imagine exploring a beach under the blazing sun at two in the morning—that kind of sun is pretty darn cool.

Pun Intended
Let’s be honest—sunburns and boredom just ain’t cool anymore. So, what is cool? Being active. Exploring the wild. Leaving no trace. Eating fresh, local food. Learning something new. Connecting with others—and with yourself. And you! You are cool. This is why we say …
