Alma af Frøya is our unique traditional sailing yacht. Built between 2000 and 2012 as a school project by the well-known wooden boat building community on Karmøy in Western Norway. She is a modern version of the traditional “Hardanger jakt”, on which we have built our seafaring tradition and coastal trade.
In fact, Alma is a modified replica of Roald Amundsen’s polar ship, Gjøa, only about 20 feet smaller.
The craftsmanship, the wooden boat traditions and the wealth of detail in this schooner make just being on board an adventure in itself!
General information
Alma is 52 feet long, weighs 45 tons and is an incredibly solid and strong schooner! She copes with all the weather and wind that our North Norwegian coast and Arctic waters can offer. This is a real outdoor boat. With plenty of space on deck, there is a range of opportunities to enjoy the spectacular scenery, the midnight sun or the northern lights. On board Alma, we can also guarantee that you will get the feeling of being part of the new Norwegian edition of “Pirates of the Caribbean”.
Below deck, there is plenty of space with a cozy galley amidships and a large and spacious saloon/barge that ensures a social experience for everyone on board. Comfort is ensured by a good central heating water-borne heating system, and all the beds are comfortable with good and warm down duvets and pillows.
Alma is owned by Fram Adventure AS, and we are lucky to be able to use her on both big and small expeditions.
