Safety & Competence

Safe frameworks – real learning

On a SeilNorge company trip, you’ll get high-impact experiences, real learning, and a strong sense of safety throughout. Sailing is inherently weather- and situation-dependent. That’s why we work systematically with competence, routines and preparedness, so your trip is both safe and meaningful.

Safety first – always

Safety is non-negotiable. We train and prepare for relevant situations at sea, such as man overboard, fire, abandoning ship, rig/mast incidents and grounding, adjusted to the trip format, route and participant profile.

The goal is not only to “have procedures”, but to build confidence and practical capability in the group, at the right level for your team.

You become crew, not passengers

A core part of the SeilNorge experience is that participants learn enough to contribute on board. This creates:

  • better flow and collaboration in practice
  • real ownership and shared achievement
  • a safer trip for everyone (people + vessel)

This is also what makes sailing especially effective for teams and leadership groups: the tasks are concrete, roles become clear, and collaboration must actually work.

Experienced skippers and clear standards

Your trip is led by skippers with extensive experience and relevant qualifications. The skipper has operational responsibility for the vessel and all safety-related decisions. If needed, we can clarify who is on board for your specific trip (for example skipper + additional instructor/guide), based on route, season, group size and complexity.

Risk assessment and preparedness

Before departure, we plan according to route, season and activities.

In practice, this means:

  • a structured safety briefing at the start
  • ongoing assessment of weather, wind and conditions
  • adapting route and program when needed

Safety also applies to shore-based activities

Many company trips combine sailing with activities on land (for example hiking, sauna, kayaking, food experiences). When an activity requires it, we apply the same principles: solid planning, appropriate equipment, clear boundaries and conservative decisions when conditions call for it.

Adapted to your Health, Safety and Environment requirements

If you have internal HSE requirements, travel/event routines or documentation needs, we adapt the delivery to match. Typically we align on:

  • participants, points of contact and responsibilities
  • considerations related to health, allergies or mobility
  • expectations around training, roles and the program
  • preferred “comfort vs. expedition” level (you decide the ambition)
